Description:

1975 Honda CB750 K5

There are motorcycles that were important and there are motorcycles that genuinely changed everything. The Honda CB750 belongs firmly in the second category. When it landed in 1969 it did something no production motorcycle had ever done: it put a four-cylinder engine, a front disc brake, and a five-speed gearbox into a machine that cost less than a British twin and ran rings around everything. It rewrote the rulebook so completely that the term 'superbike' was invented just to describe it. Fifty-six years later, the market has not forgotten.

This 1975 K5 is one of the later evolutions of the original CB750 series, still carrying the classic SOHC inline four and that glorious four-into-four exhaust before Honda moved to the later designs. It is finished in Candy Antares Red with the K5's distinctive black centre stripe flanked by gold pinstripes, and if you know your CB750s you will recognise the livery immediately. The paint is original and unrestored. For nearly 50-year-old candy red, it is holding up remarkably well: the gloss and depth are still there, the stripe graphics are clean, and there are no major chips or repairs visible anywhere.

The mileage reads 19,088 kilometres. That is a genuine figure for a bike of this specification and condition. The four-cylinder engine is clean, the alloy oxidation is the gentle kind that comes from age rather than neglect, and the original Keihin carburettors with their intact intake boots are still fitted. The four-into-four exhaust system, the item that made the CB750 sound like nothing else on the road, appears to be the original HM341 units in very presentable chrome condition. The chrome fenders front and rear are clean and dent-free. The original diamond-pleated seat is intact and well-preserved.

Frame number CB750-2566122 and engine number CB750E-2455584 are both clearly visible and documented in the photos. The vendor confirms matching numbers with the additional note that VIN and engine numbers on CB750s of this era run on separate sequences, both of which are confirmed here. The electrics are reported working with a new battery fitted.

Known deviations from factory specification: the rear wheel has been swapped to a 16-inch unit (original K5 spec is 18-inch), the centre stand is missing, one of the exhaust baffles is described as absent, and the left-hand side cover has a repaired split (not visible in photos, likely a mounting tab repair). None of these are insurmountable or unusual for a bike that has been in use.

This is the lot that serious CB750 collectors will be watching. Original paint, matching numbers, low mileage, complete four-into-four exhaust. These bikes have been climbing steadily and the really original ones are getting genuinely hard to find. Collector, investor, or enthusiast who wants to own a piece of motorcycle history. This one delivers.
