Overview

The 1942 Willys Jeep (MB) is one of the first mass-produced military vehicles in the United States, designed for transporting personnel and cargo during wartime operations. Known for its durability, ingenuity, and standardized features, the Willys Jeep became an iconic symbol of World War II military vehicles. This early model features 6.00x16 tires, 60 horsepower at 4,000 rpm, a gasoline can bracket on the left rear, trailer light provisions, spark interference suppression, a blackout light system, twin top bows, and sealed spring shackles.

Willys Jeep History

Early 1942 MB models differed from later production vehicles, including the omission of the “Willys” name on the left rear panel as mandated by the War Department. They were fitted with hand-operated windshield wipers, a shorter frame between the cowl and windshield (4 inches), and gas tanks with rectangular lower corners. The Willys MB, along with its Ford GPW counterpart, quickly became ubiquitous for military use and laid the foundation for the post-war civilian Jeep legacy.
