1976 Excalibur Series III Convertible - Brown and Cream - 27,050km - 7.4L Chevy V8, 3-Speed Automatic - Vendor Advises 1 of 173 Built - Rare Spare Parts Package Included

Left-hand drive American neo-classic roadster with extraordinary provenance and a complete spare parts package. One of approximately 173 built in 1976.

Overview

The Excalibur is one of the most theatrical automobiles ever built on American soil. Conceived by Brooks Stevens in 1964, the Excalibur Automobile Corporation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin produced hand-built neo-classic roadsters that captured the spirit of the great pre-war touring cars, powered by modern Chevrolet running gear. The Series III, produced from 1975 to 1979, refined the concept with improved engineering and more detailed coachwork. These are not kit cars or replicas. They are genuine hand-built American automobiles, and they are rare. Vendor advises this 1976 example is one of just 173 produced that year.

This particular car has covered just 27,050 kilometres, confirmed on the Stewart Warner odometer in the photos, and comes with a parts collection that would be the envy of any Excalibur enthusiast. Two freshly machined cylinder heads, a spare stainless steel muffler, a spare Stewart Warner speedometer kit in its original box, a pair of LHD headlights, spare drive belts and wiper hardware, the original Excalibur Series II and III Assembly and Parts Manual, an Illinois certificate of title, handwritten service records, and business documentation from Camelot Classic Cars Inc. in Milwaukee, the specialist Excalibur dealer and parts house. This is not just a car. It is an archive.

The exterior presents well for a 50-year-old classic that has been driven and enjoyed. The deep brown and cream two-tone paint holds good saturation across all panels. The chrome wire wheels are clean and bright, fitted with Dunlop whitewall tyres in the correct period size. The three chrome side exhaust pipes emerging from each louvred bonnet side remain straight and intact, one of the most dramatic styling elements of any car of any era. The chrome front bumper, grille, and auxiliary lights are all present and in keeping with the vehicle's age. The rear luggage trunk, mounted on a chrome carrier rack with leather straps and chrome latches, presents beautifully and adds to the complete period package. The soft top is present and the hard top is also included with the vehicle (vendor advises).

The tan vinyl interior is honest and appropriate for the mileage. The two front bucket seats show light wear consistent with use, the vertical pleating remains defined, and the seating structure is sound. The tan rear bench seat presents similarly. Door cards are in good condition. The dashboard is finished in tan with a full complement of Stewart Warner instrumentation including speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure, water temperature, fuel and voltmeter gauges, plus toggle switches for driving lights, air horn, heater, and defrost. An Alpine cassette head unit has been fitted. The steering wheel is the period three-spoke design with Excalibur centrecap. An "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY" plaque on the dashboard confirms the fuel configuration.

Mechanically this Series III runs a 7.4-litre Chevrolet V8 producing strong torque in a light roadster body, backed by a 3-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The engine bay is presentable and shows the characteristic Chevy orange block. A separately photographed spare engine assembly (freshly painted in Chevy factory orange) and two rebuilt cylinder heads demonstrate the level of mechanical investment the vendor has made in this car's future reliability. For buyers wanting an Excalibur that can actually be driven and maintained, this parts package is remarkable.
