1987 Holden VL Calais
The VL Calais was Holden’s premium performance-luxury sedan of the 1980s, and today it remains one of the most desirable models of the era. This particular example takes that appeal further, being extensively upgraded with a tough 355ci stroker V8 and a range of supporting modifications that deliver serious performance and a true street machine presence.
Under the bonnet, the engine package includes a stroker cammed 355 V8 with roller rockers, solid cam, VN Group A heads, blacked-out alloy radiator, MSD ignition, Holley high-rise manifold and Holley 650 double pumper carburettor. Fuel delivery is handled by stainless fuel lines and pump, with spent gases exiting through a twin 3-inch exhaust dumped at the diff. A Gilmore drive kit completes the package.
Backing the engine is a freshly rebuilt Turbo 350 automatic transmission with manualised 3-speed setup, B&M shift kit and a 3500rpm stall converter. A VL Turbo diff with 3.9 gears, rear disc brakes and slotted rotors delivers power to the ground, while VT front brakes provide strong stopping performance.
Presentation & Notes
Finished in blue and riding on HDT wheels, this Calais has the unmistakable look of a classic Holden performance sedan. The dash has been recalibrated and the car presents in overall good condition, though the bonnet latch requires attention as it is currently hard to open.
