1955 Holden FJ Panel Van
A classic Australian-built FJ Panel Van finished in Surf Green and showing an indicated 61,920 km. Powered by an inline six-cylinder engine paired with a 3-speed manual transmission, this two-seat commercial body style represents one of Holden’s most iconic early utility vehicles.
This particular van was built in December 1955 and completed in January 1956. It carries vehicle code FJ 2104, body number 3429, chassis 5-8762P and engine B186583. According to its known history, the van spent much of its early life in Katanning, Western Australia, where it served as a butcher’s delivery vehicle — a typical role for FJ panel vans of the era.
Holden FJ Panel Van Model History
Released in 1953 as Holden’s first major update to the original 48-215, the FJ introduced revised styling including a new chrome grille, redesigned hubcaps, and jet-inspired tail lamps. The model range expanded to include the Special Sedan and, importantly, the 2104 Panel Van — the first fully Australian-designed panel van.
The extended roofline and upper tailgate construction added practicality, making the FJ van a favourite among tradespeople, postal services, roadside assistance fleets and small businesses nationwide. Today, original surviving examples have grown increasingly collectible, often celebrated as cultural icons of 1950s Australia and prized for their simplicity, style and historic significance.
