This Large Plate Belongs To The Late 18Th-Century/Early Napoleonic Era, Worn On The Early Shako Or Cap By Infantry During Britain’S Wars With Revolutionary France. A Crowned “Gr” Cypher Or Similar Device Proclaimed Loyalty To George Iii While Regimental Numbers And Wreaths Began To Standardise Identity.
These Plates Saw Service From Home Defence To Flanders, The Caribbean And India At A Time When Britain’S Redcoats Were Transforming From Linear Musketeers Into A Global Expeditionary Force.
