BMW E36 M3 Model History
The E36 M3 marked a major evolution for BMW’s Motorsport division — the first M3 to move away from the raw, homologation-focused character of the E30, embracing a more refined yet still highly capable performance ethos. Australian-delivered cars arrived in mid-1994 and were offered only briefly before the introduction of the 3.2-litre update in 1996, making early 3.0-litre cars relatively scarce.
Dakar Yellow was chosen as the hero colour for the E36 M3 following BMW’s Paris–Dakar rally success, and only 35 Australian-delivered 3.0-litre cars were produced in this striking finish. This example is further distinguished by its ultra-rare M Rain cloth and Alcantara Vader seats — one of the most desirable interiors of the era.
This M3 has been meticulously maintained, including a comprehensive major service covering drive belts, timing chain, spark plugs and fluids. The VANOS unit has also been professionally stripped, cleaned and rebuilt by BM Enhanced in Melbourne. Accompanied by detailed service records, logbooks, and two keys, it stands as an exceptional example of a highly collectible Australian-delivered M model.
