Lot 120 - 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Tribute 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Tribute
1965 Ford Mustang 2+2 Fastback finished in Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue Le Mans racing stripes. Left-hand drive, rear-wheel drive, small-block Ford V8 engine with 4-speed manual transmission (Borg-Warner T-10). Odometer indicating 270 miles (post-build). Seating for two. THIS IS A TRIBUTE BUILD, NOT A GENUINE SHELBY GT350R.

Description / Overview:
This is one of the finest GT350R tribute builds in Australia. Built by the respected Oswalt's Mustangs of Simi Valley, California, this 1965 Mustang fastback replicates the famous Bob Johnson #33 B-Production SCCA competition car that was driven in period GT350R racing. The attention to detail in both the build and the livery is exceptional. Every GT350R visual signature is present and correct: side-exit exhaust, functional hood scoop with competition pins, front fender brake cooling ducts, Shelby cobra grille, Torq Thrust-style wheels with Hoosier race tyres, Le Mans over-the-top stripes, blue rocker stripes, and full period sponsor decals (Castrol, Goodyear, Koni, Pure Oil).

The race preparation goes far beyond cosmetics. This car has Wilwood multi-piston disc brakes on all four corners, a Griffin Thermal Products aluminum racing radiator, MSD 6-series ignition with billet distributor and Blaster coil, a fully plumbed race-spec fuel system with AN braided stainless lines throughout, a trunk-mounted racing fuel cell with flush aircraft filler cap, an Optima Red Top battery relocated to the trunk with an external kill switch, Hoosier race tyres, RCI 5-point harnesses on both seats, Auto Meter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite gauges replacing all original instruments, and a Moroso race switch panel for ignition and ancillary controls. The rear seat is deleted and replaced by the roll cage structure and fuel cell arrangement.

Documentation is comprehensive and consistent: North Carolina certificate of title (VIN 5F09A683781, titled April 2008, Jerry Ray Roberts), Australian Government vehicle import approval December 2009 (Regulation 17, pre-1989 vehicle), and the Oswalt's Mustangs build binder with cover photo of the completed car. VIN decodes as a genuine 1965 Dearborn-built Mustang fastback in Wimbledon White with 289ci V8. IMPORTANT: The original engine code is A (standard 289 2V), not K-code. No SFM Shelby serial number is assigned. This car is correctly represented as a tribute/clone build and buyers should bid accordingly. It is not a genuine Shelby GT350 or GT350R.

Price Guide: $93,000 - $155,000
Based on US market equivalent of $60,000 - $100,000 USD for comparable examples. It is not uncommon for American classics to trade at a discount in Australia due to smaller buyer pool and parts/shipping costs.
