1976 Ducati GTL500
Thirty-four miles. The odometer in the closeup photo reads 000034, and everything else on this bike confirms it. The factory instruction sticker for the trip reset is still stuck to the speedometer face. The exhaust pipes show zero bluing. The seat surface has never been sat on in anger. The shift lever rubber is unmarked. This is as close to an untouched, never-ridden motorcycle as you will find in any auction room anywhere.
The Ducati GTL500 was produced from 1975 to 1977 as Ducati explored a parallel-twin format alongside their iconic L-twin models. Crucially, it still carries Ducati's signature Desmodromic valve actuation system, the mechanical hallmark that defines the brand, applied here to a 500cc parallel twin with a 6-speed gearbox. Production numbers were limited and the model didn't run long enough to build a mainstream following, which makes surviving examples genuinely rare. An example in this condition is something else entirely.
The paint is presented in the original orange-red and silver scheme and it is extraordinary for its age, deep, blemish-free, and consistent on every panel. The alloy engine cases carry only the lightest storage patina from decades in a garage. Chrome is bright throughout with no pitting. The front disc brake rotor shows the surface rust you get from atmospheric moisture over many years, not from road use, which is exactly what you want to see on a mileage claim like this. A new battery has been fitted and the engine reportedly starts and runs.
If you are a Ducati collector you already know what this is. If you are building a collection of significant Italian motorcycles this deserves serious attention. Bikes in this state simply do not surface very often, and the documented evidence here, including the intact factory sticker on the speedometer, the zero exhaust soot, the unworn rubbers, and the pristine seat, stacks up comprehensively in support of the claim.
