Description / Overview:
The R129 SL was the benchmark for open-top luxury grand touring when it launched in 1989, and the 500SL with the M119 V8 was the one to have. This example carries production number 003351, making it among the very first R129s built. Over 35 years later it remains a proper driver: the M119 V8 is pulling strongly, the gearbox changes cleanly, and the car is road-ready.
The exterior has been freshly resprayed in silver metallic. Paint coverage and colour match are consistent. The respray has not been fully finished with wet-sand and polish, so some orange peel texture is present in the finish, particularly across the doors and front fenders. A cut and polish would bring it up to a sharper standard. The interior is a dark blue and black leather combination with matching blue carpet. The dashboard is crack-free, which is a genuine achievement on a 36-year-old R129. Door cards are in excellent condition with no sagging. The roof lining has been completed.
Factory hardtop is fitted and in good condition. Soft top mechanism is present. Log books supplied. One key. The vendor advises a close door warning light flickers on the dashboard, possibly due to a loose wire, and turns off when the door opens. Various extras are included in the boot. Sold unregistered.
