1950 Studebaker Champion Sedan - Crimson - 53,931 Miles - Bullet Nose, Highly Original Survivor

1950 Studebaker Champion four-door sedan finished in Crimson. Left-hand drive, rear-wheel drive, powered by a 170ci (2.8-litre) inline-six petrol engine with column-shift manual transmission. Odometer indicating 53,931 miles. Seating for five.

Description

The 1950 Studebaker Champion is one of the most distinctive post-war American sedans ever built. Penned by the Raymond Loewy design studio, the "bullet nose" front end and flowing fastback-inspired roofline made it look like nothing else on the road. The famous tagline asked "which way is it going?" because the rear profile mirrored the front. These cars are cult classics with a dedicated following, and well-preserved originals like this one are getting increasingly rare.

This Champion presents as a genuinely original survivor. The Crimson paint carries good gloss across all panels with only light oxidation on the horizontal surfaces. The body is straight with no evidence of major collision damage, and panel gaps are consistent all around. The chrome bumpers, both front and rear, are bright and free of heavy pitting. The famous bullet nose is intact and presents well. Inside, the original tan woven cloth upholstery is largely intact in the rear, with the front bench showing wear and a tear on the passenger seatback. The dashboard retains its original charcoal paint, chrome trim, Studebaker crest badge, and what appear to be original dealer information cards still in place. The instruments read clearly and the three-spoke steering wheel with chrome horn ring is unchipped. Under the hood, the 170ci inline-six sits in a remarkably stock engine bay with its original oil bath air cleaner, generator (not alternator), cloth-braided plug wires, and Studebaker-green block paint.

A comparable 1950 Studebaker Champion 4-door sedan sold on Bring a Trailer in March 2024 for US$5,500, while a well-restored example sold at Mecum in September 2025 for US$33,000. This one sits between those two as a highly original, mostly complete car with strong cosmetic presentation. The level of originality here is its greatest asset.
