1974 Chrysler VJ Valiant Charger - Red and White Two-Tone - 203,614km - 4-Speed Manual, Honest Unrestored Original

Price Guide: $42,000 - $60,000

1974 Chrysler VJ Valiant Charger | 4-speed manual | Rear wheel drive | 203,614km | 5 seats | Two-door coupe | Sportsman badging | Located Thomastown, VIC

Description

The Chrysler Valiant Charger was one of the most important cars ever designed and built in Australia. Developed specifically for local conditions at Chrysler Australia's Adelaide facility, the Charger shared nothing with the American Dodge Charger beyond the name. It was a compact two-door coupe with sharp European-influenced styling, available with some of the most potent Australian-built engines of its era. The VJ series ran from 1973 to 1975 and represents the final, refined generation of the Charger's production run. Surviving examples, particularly unrestored originals with their factory character intact, are increasingly sought after as the collector market recognises what was genuinely achieved here.

This 1974 example presents as an honest, unrestored Australian survivor. The red and white two-tone colour scheme is intact, with the exterior displaying patina, stone chipping, surface crazing and colour variation consistent with five decades of genuine Australian use. The classic Charger front-end styling and recognisable coupe roofline remain intact. The odometer is confirmed at 203,614 kilometres by close-up photography. Period-style steel wheels and chrome detailing contribute to the authentic 1970s character. Inside, the cabin retains its original-style trim, dashboard, steering wheel and instrument cluster. The Sportsman badging is intact, and the five-seat layout provides the full coupe experience. Light surface rust is present in the boot area, and minor dents and creases are visible on body panels, all consistent with an unrestored car of this age and mileage.

Unrestored VJ Chargers in honest survivor condition are generating strong interest at auction and in private sales. The 4-speed manual transmission is the desirable configuration for enthusiasts. This car is presented honestly, without pretending to be something it is not. For the buyer looking for a genuine starting point for restoration, preservation or straightforward enthusiast ownership, this is authentic Australian automotive history from the factory floor in Adelaide. Engine number D341L02460 and chassis number VJ7D29EI062281 are recorded for buyer verification.
