1986 BMW 635CSi E24 Coupe - Cream - 299,465km - 3.4L M30 Inline-6, Automatic, Australian Delivered

Two-door coupe, 3.4-litre M30 inline-6, automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive, right-hand drive, 299,465km, cream exterior, charcoal leather interior, Thomastown VIC.

Description

The BMW 635CSi is one of the great European grand tourers of the 1980s. The E24 body, designed by Paul Bracq and refined through the decade, remains one of the most proportionally elegant shapes BMW has ever produced, a long-bonneted, wide-shouldered coupe that looks as purposeful today as it did when it was new. The 635CSi was the performance variant, powered by the M30B34, a 3.4-litre version of BMW's legendary inline-six, producing 218 horsepower. It is an inline-six, not a V6, and the distinction matters, as the silky, naturally aspirated M30 is a significant part of what makes this car special. This 1986 example is a genuine Australian-delivered right-hand drive car, finished in cream with a charcoal leather interior.

The exterior presents well from a distance and in photos. The cream paint holds good gloss across the panels and the body lines are straight with no obvious signs of accident repair or major panel damage. The car rides on period-correct BBS mesh alloy wheels, a highly desirable modification on E24s that suits the car's character well. The front end retains the classic quad round headlights and BMW kidney grille in clean condition. Up close and in the detail shots, the interior tells the honest story of 299,465 kilometres. The charcoal leather has cracked and creased significantly on the bolsters and seat bases, requiring a retrim to restore to a presentable standard. An aftermarket head unit has replaced the original radio in the centre stack. The dashboard remains intact and free of major cracks. Climate control, power windows, and power steering are all present. At the rear, two bucket-style seats with individual headrests are trimmed in matching charcoal leather showing appropriate age wear.

The 635CSi market in Australia has been moving. Comparable examples have traded in the $30,000 to $45,000 range depending on condition, with the better-presented manual examples attracting a premium. An automatic at this mileage in driver condition sits in the lower half of that range, making the guide of $30,000 to $45,000 a fair starting point. For a buyer who appreciates the E24's character and wants a genuine piece of 1980s European GT motoring, the combination of straight body, correct wheels, and the M30 engine make this a worthwhile proposition with a clear restoration path on the interior.
