Description
Before the Holden ute was an Australian institution, working farmers ran vehicles like this. The Vauxhall Velox utility was assembled in Melbourne and offered Australians a genuine work ute with British engineering and GM mechanicals. Original survivors are genuinely rare, and a properly rebuilt example rarer still. This one has been through a complete nut-and-bolt restoration, documented with a full mechanical and body report available to the buyer.
The body was stripped to bare metal, professionally repaired and finished in Midnight Black pearl. Photos show the interior presented to an exceptional standard, with a two-tone red and white bench seat in freshly retrimmed vinyl, a restored white two-spoke Vauxhall steering wheel with centre badge, a clean charcoal dashboard with twin instrument pods, period radio controls and bright chrome detailing throughout. The headlining is tight and clean. The floor features black rubber matting with white striping. This is show-quality presentation consistent with the claimed nut-and-bolt rebuild. The GM inline-6 has been balanced and fully reconditioned: 30-thou oversized pistons, crankshaft reground, block decked, head shaved 60-thou, mild cam grind, producing in excess of 40 RWKW. The gearbox was rebuilt with new bearings and fitted with a rare Laycock overdrive conversion, allowing highway cruising at comfortable engine speeds. Brakes upgraded with CA Bedford twin leading shoes and a power booster. Running gear is comprehensively renewed: trunnions, upper joints, track rod ends, twin front sway bars. Widened safety rims carry American 195x15" whitewall tyres. Rebuilt radiator with electric fan, new laminated windscreen, custom 58-litre fuel tank and a full rewire with additional fuse protection round out the mechanical work.
Vendor advises the vehicle is registered under club plates, transferable to WA club plate holders only. Two sets of keys, a full mechanical and body report, log books, restoration photographs and the owner's manual are all included. The ute tub has been renewed with a tool box fitted for practical use, and a heavy duty towbar is fitted. Comparable restored Vauxhall Velox utilities are rarely available, and a fully documented build like this commands serious collector interest. This is a rare piece of Australian working-class motoring history, properly done.
