Description
The Rolls-Royce Corniche by Mulliner Park Ward is one of the most desirable and collectible British automobiles of the 20th century. Introduced formally in 1971 but with origins in coachbuilt Silver Shadow conversions dating to 1966, this 1967 example predates the official Corniche nameplate and represents some of the earliest and rarest Mulliner Park Ward two-door coupe work on the Silver Shadow platform. Mulliner Park Ward, the in-house coachbuilder at Crewe, hand-crafted each body with a level of craftsmanship that standard production cars could not match. The flowing two-door roofline, the perfectly proportioned flanks, and the elegant detailing were entirely hand-built, making every example genuinely unique. An Australian-delivered example of this rarity adds further historical significance.
This example is presented in blue, which suits the Corniche's graceful proportions beautifully. The paintwork retains good gloss and depth across the bodywork, and the iconic Pantheon grille and Spirit of Ecstasy mascot present with the commanding presence these cars are known for. Period-correct wheels with whitewall tyres complete the classic presentation. Chrome brightwork is described as presenting well with minor age-related wear. Inside, grey leather upholstery and beautifully finished timber veneers create the extraordinary cabin environment for which Mulliner Park Ward work is renowned. The timber veneers throughout the cabin, excluding the original dashboard, have been professionally refinished by a Rolls-Royce restoration specialist, which preserves the car's authenticity while refreshing the visual quality of the woodwork. The original dashboard timber is retained, further underpinning the vehicle's provenance. Vendor advises the interior leather displays the patina expected of a well-preserved example at 97,781 miles.
Genuine Australian-delivered Mulliner Park Ward Corniche coupes of this era are exceptionally rare on the local market. International auction results for comparable early Corniche coupes in good condition have regularly achieved GBP 80,000 to 150,000 and above at leading auction houses including Bonhams and RM Sotheby's, reflecting their status as significant collector cars. Australian-delivered examples with documented history command premium interest from local and international collectors. For a serious collector seeking one of Britain's most elegant and exclusive grand touring coupes with genuine historical significance and local provenance, this is a rare opportunity.
