1983 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible - Blue - 87,300 Miles - 5.3L V12 Grand Tourer, Automatic, RHD

Price Guide: $18,000 - $28,000

1983 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible, blue with cream leather interior, 5.3L naturally aspirated V12, automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive, 87,300 miles indicated, 2+2 seats, right-hand drive.

Description

The Jaguar XJS is one of the great analogue grand tourers. Launched in 1975 as the successor to the E-Type, it combined a long, low body with the legendary 5.3 litre V12 engine that Jaguar developed through its racing programme. The result was a car of genuine effortless performance, with the V12 producing its power so smoothly that speed arrived without drama. The 1983 convertible represents the first-generation cabriolet conversion and remains one of the most visually striking open-top cars of its era, with the classic XJS long bonnet, chrome leaper, and quad round headlights working perfectly with the folded soft top and cream leather cabin.

This XJS presents as a well-preserved example with good visual presence. The dark blue metallic paint shows strong gloss and even reflections across all panels, with the gold coachline stripe running cleanly along the body. Chrome bumpers, quad headlights, leaper badge, and brightwork are all intact and presentable. The period-correct lattice alloy wheels are straight and presentable. The cream leather interior is a highlight, with front seats, door cards, and rear quarters all presenting well with minimal cracking or heavy wear. The burr walnut dashboard and centre console veneer is intact and adds genuine period character. An aftermarket VDO head unit has been fitted in the centre stack, and a non-original wooden gear knob is installed. The gear selector surround trim shows wear. The engine bay houses the 5.3 litre V12 in original configuration and presents as a used but complete unit, with the typical complexity of hoses and wiring that defines the XJS engine bay. A thorough service and recommission. Note that the odometer reads 87,300 in what appears to be miles on the Smiths instrument cluster. Prospective

Right-hand-drive XJS V12 Convertibles are increasingly sought after as the last of the truly analogue Jaguar grand tourers. Comparable Australian-delivered examples in driver condition have traded in the $20,000 to $40,000 range, with well-presented examples in strong cosmetic order at the top. The combination of V12 power, convertible body, and right-hand drive makes this a compelling classic for the right buyer.
