1975 Volkswagen Kombi T2 Late Bay - Olive Yellow over White - 79,022km - Restored, Dual Carb 2.0-Litre, Camper Conversion

Price Guide: $22,000 - $32,000

1975 VW T2 late bay Kombi, rear-wheel drive, 2.0-litre air-cooled flat-four (non-original dual-carb unit), manual, indicating 79,022km, right-hand drive, Australian delivered.

Description

The 1975 T2 late bay is the final evolution of the original Kombi before VW moved to the T25 water-cooled platform in 1979. This is an Australian-delivered example, finished in a striking two-tone olive yellow over white that the late bay body carries exceptionally well. The vendor advises a full restoration covering body, mechanical components, and engine, and from the photographs that claim stacks up. The body is straight and rust-free in presentation, panel gaps are tight and consistent, the chrome trim and window rubbers appear renewed, and the two-tone paint carries deep gloss throughout all visible surfaces. A rear quarter window sticker notes custom modifications, and the overall presentation is at show standard.

The interior has been comprehensively retrimmed in coordinated green and cream vinyl, with the front bench and door cards in two-tone to match the exterior. Rear panels are finished in white tongue-and-groove style boarding, and a wood-look laminate floor runs through the cargo area, where a folding sleeping platform with green and white cushioning has been fitted at the rear. The overall camper conversion is sympathetically executed and the attention to colour coordination is a genuine selling point. The cab area carries the original black padded dash and three-spoke steering wheel with an aftermarket Pioneer head unit fitted. The floor-mounted four-speed gear shift is correct for the late bay, and a custom timber centre console has been added consistent with the lifestyle build theme. A spare wheel is mounted inside the cargo area.

The engine is confirmed as a non-original CJ-prefix 2.0-litre unit, upgraded with dual carburettors and pod air filters, and the engine number CJ940145 is visible and legible on the casting. An Australian Road Safety Division modification compliance plate from 1987 confirms approval for five-seat additional seating configuration. The five-digit odometer reads 79,022km, which on a vehicle of this age cannot be independently verified as first-over, so inspect with that in mind. T2 late bay Kombis in restored condition with camper conversions are currently achieving AUD $30,000 to $55,000 in the Australian market, with presentation and mechanical quality the key variables. This example presents towards the better end of that range.
