Valerio Adami is an Italian artist born in Bologna in 1935 who became a prominent figure in the Paris narrative figuration movement of the 1960s and 1970s. His distinctive style draws on comics, Pop Art, and classical painting traditions, rendering figures in bold black outlines with flat areas of saturated colour and graphic hatching. Works by Adami are held in major public collections internationally, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

This substantial colour etching depicts the mythological scene of the Abduction of Europa, one of the enduring subjects from Greek mythology. The composition shows a muscular figure in a purple sleeveless top seated above a dark bull rendered in deep grey-purple, the whole in warm ochres, tans, and sanguine red with Adami's signature bold contour lines. It is a large-format work at 103 x 75 cm, hand-signed in pencil and numbered 43 from an edition of 75. The COA from Collins and Kent International Fine Art accompanies the lot.

Limited edition signed prints by Adami of comparable size and period have traded internationally in the range of USD $800-$3,500 at auction. The combination of COA, hand-signature, low-to-mid edition number, and excellent physical condition makes this a well-documented example.
