1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible - Light Blue - 79,360 Miles - 8.2L 500ci V8, Automatic, FWD - THE LAST YEAR - Final Production Eldorado Convertible
1976 was the final year the Cadillac Eldorado was produced as a convertible. 14,000 were built. This is one of them.
Overview
Cadillac ended convertible production with the 1976 Eldorado. The Eldorado Convertible had been in production since 1971, and by 1973 Cadillac was signalling it would be the last American convertible. In 1976 they built 14,000 of the final run, and collectors snapped them up immediately. Five decades later, a genuine 1976 Eldorado Convertible in original condition represents a historically significant piece of American automotive history. This is not just a classic car. It is the last of a breed that defined an era.
This example is finished in light blue metallic with a cream convertible top and matching cream leather interior, one of the most striking and period-authentic colour combinations available on the Eldorado. The paint holds good gloss across all panels and photographs beautifully in the studio shots. The body lines are straight, all chrome is intact, and the distinctive Cadillac grille with the "Cadillac" script across the bonnet presents well. The original Cadillac hubcaps with whitewall tyres are fitted and in keeping with the car's period character. The cream convertible soft top is present with appropriate age-related wear.
The interior carries the original cream leather individual bucket seats, which show honest age and yellowing consistent with a 50-year-old vehicle. The driver seat shows the bolster wear noted in the listing. The rear bench seat presents similarly, with intact structure. The dashboard is finished in blue to match the exterior with woodgrain inserts and the original "Eldorado" badge on the passenger side fascia. The factory climate control system is present. A manual convertible top crank is fitted in the footwell alongside the factory mechanism. The power window switches are intact in chrome surrounds on the driver door, controlling all four windows independently.
The engine bay houses the legendary Cadillac 8.2-litre (500 cubic inch) V8, the largest production passenger car engine of its era, driving the front wheels through a 3-speed column-shift automatic. The odometer reads 79,360 miles on the original instrument cluster. The price guide of $18,000 to $26,000 is well-calibrated for this market. Recent US auction results for comparable 1976 Eldorado convertibles in driver condition have settled in the USD $14,000-$22,000 range. Australian examples command a premium for the import effort already invested.
