Description:

1987 Holden Commodore VL SL Turbo Sedan - Bumblebee Yellow - 89,322km - Getrag 5-Speed Manual - Rajab Racing RB30ET Build - Genuine Turbo Car

Manual VL Turbo in Bumblebee Yellow with a professional engine rebuild by one of Australia's most respected RB30 specialists. The compliance plate confirms chassis AVL04C2S1K. The build plate confirms engine LW5 (factory RB30ET turbo), transmission MX7 (Getrag 5-speed), paint 1D008-D, built September 1987. This is the genuine article.

The Car

The VL Commodore SL Turbo is one of the genuine icons of Australian performance motoring. Introduced in 1986, it brought serious forced induction to the mainstream Commodore range and the Getrag 5-speed manual variants are the ones collectors compete hardest for. This example, finished in Bumblebee Yellow (factory paint code 1D008-D) over the standard grey lower body cladding, presents well and has been preserved rather than modified beyond the engine build. At 89,322 kilometres, it is genuinely low mileage for a 38-year-old car.

The exterior is very presentable. Bumblebee Yellow paint holds strong gloss across all panels, body lines are straight and even, and factory grey lower body cladding is fully intact. The distinctive VL Turbo bonnet scoop is present and in good order. Both front guards wear the original Electronic Injection badges. The bootlid carries the original SL Turbo badge in excellent condition alongside the Holden lion badge. Factory chrome highlights are intact. Steel wheels are currently fitted, the factory alloys not being present (vendor to advise whether original alloys are included with the sale).

Inside, the cream/beige interior is honest for the kilometres. The factory Holden steering wheel, Getrag gear lever, and handbrake are all original. The instrument cluster includes the VL Turbo-specific boost gauge (x100kPa) and tachometer with redline at 6,000rpm. The factory radio/cassette and analogue air conditioning controls are present and complete. Three pedals confirm the manual specification throughout.

The Engine Build

Vendor advises the engine was rebuilt and tuned by Rajab Racing Developments in November 2021. Rajab Racing is a well-known specialist in the VL Turbo RB30 platform and the work done on this car is extensive. Vendor advises the build includes forged JE pistons, H-beam connecting rods, a Garrett GTX3582 turbocharger, Turbosmart 45mm external wastegate, Link ECU engine management, reconditioned cylinder head, Rajab Racing inlet plenum and exhaust manifold, front-mount intercooler, Mantic twin-plate clutch, and a heavy-duty tail shaft. The factory turbo differential is retained. The Rajab Racing inlet plenum cover is visible in the engine bay photos. Stainless braided lines confirm the intercooler pipework installation.
