Description:

1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL W126 - Midnight Blue - 192,180km - 5.6L M117 V8, Automatic, Logbook, Two Keys

W126 560SEL flagship, Australian delivery from new, original logbook stamped from 1986, two keys, and comprehensive documentation.

Overview

The W126 560SEL was the pinnacle of the Mercedes-Benz range when it was built. Largest wheelbase, biggest engine in the S-Class lineup, and the full complement of passive safety technology that Mercedes had developed across the 1980s. The 5.6-litre M117 V8 produced 220kW in Australian specification, moving the substantial four-door with a composure that still impresses today. Built January 1987, this example was Australian delivered through Mercedes-Benz (NSW) Pty Ltd at Milperra, first serviced at Diesel Motors (authorised MB service, Bentley WA) on 10 July 1986, and has been on Australian roads ever since. The W126 generation is now firmly established as a collectable. Good examples are going, and they are not making more of them.

Outside, the midnight blue paint holds deep, rich gloss across every panel. The body lines are straight with no visible evidence of panel damage or accident repair. Chrome arch trim is bright and intact, the grille and hood star are original and present, and the 560SEL badging on the boot lid is correct and clean. Aftermarket multi-spoke BBS-style alloy wheels with polished lips and Mercedes centre caps have been fitted in place of the original Bundt items. They suit the car well and present in very good condition across all four corners.

The interior is the characteristic W126 experience. Cream MB-Tex door cards and headliner throughout, with a two-tone tan and cream leather seat combination. The rear cabin benefits from the long-wheelbase format, with genuine executive legroom and storage nets on the front seatback. Burl walnut trim runs across all four door cards and the centre console and dashboard surround, with some UV fading on the console consistent with age. The four-zone power window switches are inlaid into the centre console in the classic W126 layout. An aftermarket Kenwood head unit has been fitted. The burl wood gear selector knob is a period accessory. The glovebox with illuminated fold-down tray is intact. The instrument cluster is clear and readable, confirming 192,180km. A workshop service sticker from Fairfield European is visible on the radiator support in the engine bay.

The M117 V8 is under the bonnet looking as it should after regular maintenance. The engine bay presents without obvious leaks or major deterioration. Two keys on a Mercedes-Benz lanyard, the original owner's manual, and the service logbook with maintenance records from first delivery are included with the car.

Documented examples of this quality in midnight blue have been achieving $22,000 to $30,000 through specialist dealers and Shannons auctions. The guide of $18,000 to $26,000 positions this car as genuine value for a logbook W126 560SEL with its provenance intact.
