Description:

1944 BSA M20 - Olive Green - 57 Miles - Original Military-Issue Single-Cylinder Motorcycle

A genuine wartime survivor with 57 recorded miles, matching engine and frame numbers, and complete military specification intact after more than 80 years.

About This Machine

The BSA M20 was the British Army's motorcycle of choice throughout the Second World War. Simple, reliable, and tough enough to function in the worst conditions, it was the machine that kept communications moving across North Africa, Italy, and Northwest Europe. BSA produced over 120,000 M20s during the war years, and this 1944 example represents one of the finest survivors to come to auction in Australia.

What makes this machine exceptional is not simply its age or its military pedigree. It is the 57 miles on the clock. Confirmed by the original Smiths brass-bezel speedometer, this BSA left Birmingham in 1944 and has barely turned a wheel since. The military service number C4856510 is stencilled in white on the olive green fuel tank exactly as it left the factory. The engine number WM20 90660 and frame number WM20 81117 are both visible and stamped clearly, confirming this is a matching-numbers machine throughout.

The 500cc side-valve single-cylinder engine is surrounded by period-correct componentry: the original carburettor, the Lucas magneto/dynamo assembly, copper oil lines, and the original air filter all remain in place. The military folding side stand, rear carrier frame, leather sprung saddle, and hinged tool compartment are all present. This is not a restored machine dressed to look original. It is the genuine article, preserved rather than fettled, with the patina and character that only comes from honest age.
